Seroquel XR is used to treat a mental disorder called depression or anxiety disorder (such as major depressive disorder, panic attack disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, or schizophrenia). Seroquel XR helps to increase the amount of serotonin in the brain, which helps to treat depression and anxiety disorder (such as major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, or psychosis). Serotonin is a neurotransmitter (antagonist) that helps to balance (relax the nerves) and increase the amount of neurotransmitters in the brain (such as dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin).
If you are taking Serotonin Inhibitors (such as Geodon, Ritalin, Effexor, Zyprexa), your dose of Serotonin Inhibitors may need adjustment or you may need to be taken twice per day. Serotonin Inhibitors may help to decrease the intensity of the manic episode and/or the depressive episode. You should not take Serotonin Inhibitors if you are taking a MAO inhibitor (such as Eldepryl, Imatinib, Incline, Oxcarbazepine, St John's Wort, others). Your doctor may order other lab tests to monitor your blood sugar, including and HbA1C levels.
Tell your doctor about any and all medicines you are taking, especially any of the following: amitriptyline, amitron, amphotericin B, busman's buccal or omalizumab, buspirone, celecoxib, duloxetine, dutasteride, dexamethasone, fluoxetine, gerapontine, lorazepam, phenytoin, rifabutin, propoxyphene, ritonavir, saquinavir, tamoxifen, others.
Seroquel XR is meant to be taken once a day. Your doctor may lower your dose based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
For the treatment of depression, the usual dose is usually 50 mg per day; for anxiety disorder, the usual dose is 25 mg per day.
Take Seroquel XR exactly as your doctor has prescribed. Follow your doctor's directions exactly.
If you are taking it with food or milk, take it at the same time each day. Take your dose as directed by your doctor. Do not take extra medicine to feel better.

Seroquel's effect is believed to start at 12 hours, with effects typically felt 30-60 minutes after dosing. The '-ing' period is due to (atypical) side effects of the newer (in addition to (atypical) serotonergic medications), including drowsiness, difficulty sleeping, nausea, sweating, appetite loss, and, of course, the onset of these effects. The '-ing' period for Seroquel is typically felt to be 2-3 hours, and for Quetiapine, it is meant to be between 2 and 4 hours. The '-ing' period for Seroquel is meant to last from 2 to 4 hours.
Side Effects of Seroquel
